Ana Maria Mercado

Ana Maria Mercado was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on July 9, 1920. She was the third of four children born to Tomas and Quintana Maldonado. Ana attended school in Puerto Rico until middle school. In 1939 she married Roberto Mercado out of this union, ten children were born, Roberto Jr., Tomas, Angel Luis, Manuela (Nelly), Lourdes, Raquel, Sylvia, and Yolanda Mercado. Ana was a loving and caring mother, totally devoted to her husband and children. In 1948, Ana and Roberto moved to New York City and resided in Brooklyn. Ana worked in various occupations. Mostly doing factory work. She always encouraged her children to finish school, work hard and give your best in everything you do. And to have strong faith in God. Her favorite saying was “Si Dios (Jehovah) quiere”. (If it’s God’s (Jehovah’s) will). Her final job was as a Home Health Care Attendant for the elderly from which she retired. As she raised her children, she was active in her church where she sang in a beautiful alto voice. Ana loved to read and study the Bible and sharing it with others. She was energetic, lively and could always make people smile. Ana was also involved in community activities such as PTA, she also participated in rallies for youth programs, employment, and crime prevention, to name a few. She was very compassionate in helping people in need. She enjoyed doing Word Searches and always made sure she looked fabulous from head to toe at all times. Ana enjoyed travelling to Puerto Rico with her late husband Roberto and vacationing in California where her daughters, Lourdes (and husband Reggie), Sylvia and Yolanda, and their children resided. In October 2008 at the age 88 years old ,she dedicated her life to Jehovah by water baptism in California district assembly. Ana left New York City to live in North Carolina with her daughter Lourdes and son-in law Reggie. She attended the Harrisburg Congregation where she meet and loved the friends in the congregation, and she loved to having her picture taken after the meeitings by a particular sister n the congregation each and every time. Ana was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Roberto Mercado, Teresa Mercado, Manuel Mercado, Roberto Mercado Jr., Angel Luis Mercado, Manuela Millie Ortiz, and Yolanda Mercado. Ana leaves to mourn her death one son, Tomas Mercado of Brooklyn, N.Y., daughters Lourdes (Reggie), of Charlotte, N.C., Raquel Mercado, Ithaca, N.Y., and Sylvia Mercado, San Bernardino, CA. One sister, Tomasa ( Nene) Maldonado Bronx, NY Three sister in-laws Angelita Rivera., PA, Juanita (Pira) Melendez, Bklyn, NY, Julia Melendez, Conn. Maria (Tinin) Rivera and Julia Collazo, Bronx, NY whom she regarded as her own daughters. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, we cannot add up all the great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Also, a host of nieces, nephews and friends. With profound gratitude, we wish to extend our thanks to each of you who was there to comfort us with flowers, cards and acts of kindness during the loss of our beloved Ana Maria Mercado. The Family
