Betty Barnes Copeland

Betty Barnes Copeland, 83, of Monroe, NC, died peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2025. Through the blessing of hospice, she was able to be at home surrounded by her family. Betty was born in Mecklenburg County on January 3, 1942, the daughter of John Harold Barnes Sr and Gladys Polson Barnes. She grew up in Charlotte and was a member of the first graduating class of South Mecklenburg High School. Betty met the love of her life in Charles Daniel Copeland and they were married. She worked a short time for a bank until she was blessed with a family, upon which she took up the honorable profession of “Mom” until her youngest graduated from school. Betty then went on to work for the Presbyterian School of Nursing where she served as a Registrar, a role she ultimately retired from upon learning it was time to take on a new title, “grandmother”. Betty was a lady full of grace, beauty and determination. A beacon of light in so many ways: a smile to bring joy, an ear to listen and arms to hold comfort. She was also a wonderful and dedicated wife to Charles Daniel Copeland for what would have been 65 years this December. She enjoyed going to the beach but what she enjoyed most was being around friends and family. Betty is survived by her husband, Charles; her daughter, Tanya (husband Michael) Stancil of Monroe; one grandson, Chase Bollenbecker (fiance Alexess Chaney) of Monroe, NC; a sister, Barbara Brown and brother Michael (wife Debi) Barnes of Charlotte. Betty is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children: Charles Tony Copeland and Chadwick Troy Copeland, and one brother, John Harold Barnes Jr. No formal services are planned at this time. In honor of her battle with dementia and the love and care shown by hospice, the family respectfully requests any memorials or donations in her name be made to the memory/dementia charity of your choice or to hospice.
