Bonnie Jean Young

Bonnie Jean Young, 75, of Charlotte, died April 15, 2025, at the Novant Medical Center in Matthews. Bonnie was born on September 3, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She grew up in Carnegie. While bowling in a ladies bowling league, she met a striking young man in the men’s league named Terrence Young. They were married in March of 1972 and moved to Coraopolis. Through the years, they moved from Coraopolis, PA, to Ridgeway, VA, to Kinston, NC, and finally to Charlotte, NC, in 1997, where they have been residents since. Through the years, she worked in many different places, but most had one thing in common, her love of baking and decorating cakes and cookies. She was blessed with a talent for this and she especially enjoyed baking for others. It was her way of bringing joy to others and she was often referred to as “The Cake Lady”. But baking and decorating were not her only God given blessings. Bonnie loved working with her hands and she was always creative. This led to another passion of hers, knitting and sewing. She joined a knitting group, The Knitting Knockouts, who meet every Thursday. And when she left home, she never went anywhere without her knitting bag to keep her busy. Throughout life, she not only used her talents, but she used her strong will and compassion to care for others. Bonnie would do anything for anyone, and she was very generous to others with her time and her patience. She will be both sadly missed and fondly remembered for the blessing she was to all who knew her. Bonnie is survived by her husband, Terry, of Charlotte; her daughter, Vicki (Craig Belden) Davenport of Whitsett, NC; her brother, Jeff (Kay) Rahuba of Pittsburgh, PA; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sandi Scharrenberg. A Celebration of Life service at the family home is being planned for a later date and will be posted here when finalized.
