Brenda Jewell Lucas-Arnold

Brenda Gerald “Jewell” Lucas‑Arnold, 75, of Mint Hill, slipped peacefully from this world at 12:01 AM on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026—timing that felt perfectly in character for a woman who always did things with intention and just a touch of dramatic flair. She was able to spend her final days exactly where she wanted to be: at home and in the gentle presence of her family. Born on May 25, 1950, in Harnett County, North Carolina, Brenda was the firstborn daughter of James Samuel and Joyce Tutor Lucas. She spent her early years in Lillington, where she loved spending time with her grandparents, playing endlessly with her sisters and cousins, and developing the quick wit and sharp mind that would become her lifelong trademarks. Her teenage years took her to Manassas, Virginia, where she attended Osborne High School and began her habit of mastering anything she set her mind to. Brenda was blessed with a rare combination of curiosity and capability—she could do just about anything, and she often did. She eventually found her professional home in property management, where her intelligence, humor, and people‑first heart made her a natural. While at the NCO Club at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, she met a striking young man stationed there who at first caught her eye, and then caught her heart, Mr. Daniel D. Arnold. On June 18, 1987, they married. Eventually, they settled in Mint Hill, to be near the children and family. Brenda’s gifts were many—artist, manager, problem‑solver, encourager—but her greatest talent was her ability to build you up when you were down. Helping others wasn’t just something she did; it was who she was. She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Daniel D. Arnold; her daughter, Carrie (husband Matt) Wood; her son, Samuel Vaughan; and her sisters, Karen Lucas and Lou Lucas. She leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and the kind of love that continues long after the last goodbye. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, whom she loved dearly and whenever possible, did what she could to make her home near them, wherever they were. It is a comfort to know she is home again with them. Brenda’s family has entrusted the family of Lowe‑Neddo Funeral Home with the privilege of caring for her and for them. A graveside service will be held at noon on Saturday, April 11, at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
