Carlton Enoch Kight

Carlton Enoch Kight, 91, of Chesapeake, VA, passed away at his daughter's home in Charlotte, NC, on March 11, 2017. Carlton was born on September 10, 1925, in Riddle, NC. He was preceded by his parents, Enoch Kight and Minnie Sanderlin Kight; brother, Ben Kight; sisters, Elizabeth Koon, and Alice Needham; son, Marshall Kight and his wives Blanche Plant Kight, and Mary B. Kight. He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Kight Lillard and her husband John; grandchildren, Kurt Kight, Karen Walker, Kris Kight, Kelly Heffernan, Kenneth Kight, John Lillard, Jr., and Bridgette Lillard; 9 great grandchildren, and numerous great great grandchildren. Carlton was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired after 22 years of service with Navy Public Works Center, Norfolk. He was a devout member of Deep Creek United Methodist Church. Carlton was a 52 year Masonic Veteran. His Masonic activities included: Grand Lodge Representative to Brazil, near Virginia; Former member Grand Lodge Committee on Foreign Correspondence; Past District Deputy Grand Master - 34th Masonic District (1992); Life Member - Lake Drummond Lodge No. 178; Past Master (1978) and Life Member - Portsmouth Lodge No. 100 (was Portsmouth-Naval No. 100 when he served as Master); Honorary Member - Unanimity Lodge No. 7, North Carolina; 52 Year Royal Arch Masonic Veteran; Past District Deputy Grand High Priest - 21st Capitular District (1994); Life Member and Past High Priest (1971) - Cradock Royal Arch No. 72; Past Commander and Life Member - Portsmouth Commandery No. 5 Knights Templar; Charter Member, Past Sovereign Master, and Treasurer Emeritus and Emeritus Member - Portsmouth - Chesapeake Council No. 155, Allied Masonic Degrees; Member - St. Thomas Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine; Member - Hampton Roads York Rite College No. 95; Member Emerald Isle Council No. 30, Knight Masons; Past Commander Griggs Commandry #14 12/31/64; Past High Priest Cherokee Chapter #19 12/31/63; Past Illustrious Master Tyrian Council #14 12/31/62; KYCH York Rite Mason; Member of Ananias Dare Council #193 Allied Masonic Degrees; and Grand Tall Cedar, Cedars of Lebannon Portsmouth Forest 143. The family will receive friends at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel on Thursday, March 23, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2017, in the funeral home chapel by Rev. John David Forbes with Masonic Rites. Interment with U. S. Navy honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 3920 Airline Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23321.
