Charles David Evans

Charles David Evans, born January 20, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away leaving behind a legacy of service, hard work, and love for his family. He was the son of Fred Evans and Johnnie Belle Evans. Charles was drafted into the United States Army on September 6, 1967, and served in Korea until his honorable discharge on September 5, 1973. Upon returning to New York, he began building a life rooted in family and dedication. He married Sadie Duggins, the mother of his children, who preceded him in death. For more than 30 years, Charles worked as a Transformer Mechanic lineman for Con-Edison, a career marked by skill and perseverance. His work motto was respect, accountability, and mind your business. Currently there are three generations of nephews employed at Con-Edison in top positions, thanks to the encouragement and guidance of Uncle David also known as the "Lone Wolf ". Following his retirement, he continued to use his talents by owning and operating his own residential electrical repair service. Life brought Charles unexpected joy when he met Ms. Deborah Warthen Knight by chance in a grocery store. Their connection grew into love, and on July 26, 2006, they were married. That same year, they built their home in Mint Hill, North Carolina, where Charles became a proud resident. Charles enjoyed going to the gym, learning tae kwan do, and spending quiet time reading. He was also a devoted fan of jazz, especially the music of John Coltrane, which Deborah lovingly played for him when they first began dating. Charles is survived by his wife of 19 years, Deborah Knight-Evans; his children: Solli Evans of Florida, Iysha Evans of New York, John Evans of New York, and Miriam Makeba Evans of Charlotte, NC, Tyleek Evans of Charlotte and Cecelia Evans. His stepchildren: Caprice Knight-Johnson (Larry Johnson) of Texas, Archie (Christene) Knight of Pennsylvania, and Octavius (Laine) Knight of New Jersey; his grandchildren: Vishay, Kayla, Julia, Tatiyana, Paris; his step-grandchildren: Octavius Knight Jr., Angelina, Christian, Archie K Jr., Danielle, Cameron, Somara, and Nicholas; and his great-grandchildren: Aiden, Mercy, Malcolm, Brysen, and Braylen. He is further survived by his siblings: Lilian, Steven, Alphonso, Richie, and Bruce, along with numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kim; his granddaughter, Laquisha; his sister, Diane; and his brothers John and Fred Jr. Charles’ family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 6, 2025, in the funeral home chapel, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of service. In honor of his military service, Charles will be interred with military honors at Salisbury National Cemetery Annex at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
