Daniel Charles Barger

Daniel Charles Barger, 61, of Charlotte, died November 3, 2023, at Novant Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte. Daniel was born in Salsbury, NC, on February 11, 1962, the son of Larry Barger and Sandra Combs. They moved to Charlotte when he was a child and he graduated from Garinger High School on June 6, 1980. He moved to Colorado where he started land surveying and rendezvousing with the Indians. A little over a year later, Daniel returned to Charlotte. One night, while helping behind the bar at his friend Allen Hughes establishment, “The Pump Handle”, he met a young lady who it turned out, rode the same #81 bus when they were in middle school. Well, the conversation turned into dating and on April 18, 1986, Daniel married the love of his life, Ms. Gaye Pritchard, in York, SC. Dan was a member of the Organ Lutheran Church in Rockwell where he was baptized as well as a NC Lifetime Hunter and a member of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors. Daniel stayed in the surveying profession and for the last 15 years, worked for Control Point Systems as a surveyor. He loved the job and as a benefit to being outside all of the time, had a large collection of Indian arrowheads, which he enjoyed even more as he was partially of Cherokee blood. When Daniel was not working, he still enjoyed being outdoors doing all the hunting and fishing he could get in. When inside, he would enjoy watching outdoors programs about people living in the wilderness off the grid. In fact, had his wife gone along with it, he would have done so himself. A true outdoorsman, Daniel loved all kinds of animals and would be the one to have a “I Brake for Butterflies” bumper sticker on his car. Most of all, though, Daniel loved spending time with his family. Daniel is survived by his wife, Gaye; one daughter Jade (husband Carlos) Williams of Monroe; two grandchildren: Sunnie Grace and Logan Reign; a sister, Rene Barger of Salisbury; his father, Larry Barger of York, SC; and the man who raised him as his son, Bruce Richard of Rockwell. He is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends. Daniel was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Richard; his paternal grandmother Helena Rich; paternal grandfather Claude Rich; his maternal grandmother, Mae Combs; and maternal grandfather James “Jim” Combs. Daniel’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for him and for them. Services will be held at the funeral home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC, on Saturday, November 11, 2023. Visitation will begin at 2 pm followed by a service at 3. All services will conclude at the funeral home that day.
