Derrick Akeem Byers

Derrick Akeem Byers, 31, aka "King D.A.B." of Charlotte, left this world for his heavenly home on June 19, 2023. Derrick was born in Charlotte on January 22, 1992, the son of Eric and Linda Marshall Byers. A lifelong resident of Charlotte, he graduated from West Charlotte High School. Anyone who knew Derrick knew that his avenue of expression was song, and he was a lyrical genius. Writing and performing over 200 songs, he told the world his story. Derrick’s dream was to one day be a professional music artist. While he worked other jobs on his way to his dream, they were not careers but stepping stones on his journey. Another way Derrick expressed himself constantly was in his care for others. With ever a big heart, he would not only do community service projects, he would take on so much that he would involuntarily commit family to helping along! No matter what the world threw at Derrick or at you, he strove to and succeeded in seeing the best in people. That belief in a common good was fostered by his faith. Born and raised a member of the LDS Church, he was also very spiritual, and a strong believer in God whom he spoke so much about. Derrick was a light, a spirit you remembered in a dark world, and he will not only be missed, but fondly remembered for that gift he left behind in his short 31 years. Left to fondly remember him, mourn his loss and share his story are his mother, Linda Byers of Charlotte; his grandmothers, Alice Marshall and Patsy Byers, both of Charlotte; his granddads, Jackie Jones and Curtis Lewis; his siblings: Devagio Byers, Timyra Byers and Jaylen Byers, all of Charlotte. Derrick was a proud uncle to Tymere, Jaida and Nahla. Further surviving Derrick are his uncles, Benjamin Byers, Jerry Jones, James Marshall; his aunts, Roberta Byers and Annie Marshall; and numerous other relatives and friends. Derrick was preceded in death by his father Eric Byers, his grandparents; his uncle, Tim Marshall; uncle Larry Marshall. Derrick’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for him and for them. In honor of his faith, all services will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3020 Hilliard Drive, Charlotte, NC 28205. The family will begin received friends at 10:00 AM followed by a service at 11:00 AM. All services will conclude at the church. In honor of his love of family, the family respectfully requests donations in his honor be made to them for continuing his legacy.
