Donald Lee Presson

Donald (Donnie) Lee Presson, age 65, passed away peacefully in his home on January 20th, 2023, after a long battle with ALS (AKA Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He was surrounded by his loving family. Donnie is survived by his wife of 27 years, Tamara; his daughter Brianna Barker and husband Cody, His sister Amy Kisella and husband JD, sister Cindy Wallace and brother Gerald Smith and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents; mother: Nancy Smith and father: Donald C. Presson. Donnie was born on January 13, 1958, in Charlotte, NC, to parents Donald Craven Presson and Nancy Lee Callahan. He graduated from Independence High School in 1976 and held various jobs until 1982 when he became a concrete mixer truck driver. He worked in concrete either as a truck driver or plant manager until 2021 when he had to leave his job due to the disabling effects caused by ALS. When he wasn’t working, Donnie loved to fish and spent many family vacations in Kure Beach, NC fishing on the pier. Even if the fish weren’t biting, he always said it was still peaceful just to sit and watch the line in the water. He and his wife had planned to get a pontoon boat so that he could do more fishing when he retired. He loved FORD, enjoyed Nascar Racing and NFL Football. His all time favorite driver was the late Davey Allison and favorite football team was the Miami Dolphins. Some of his favorites in his younger years were cars, motorcycles and he was a big KISS fan. Donnie never met an animal that didn’t become his friend. His companion and canine nurse maid these last few years has been Miss Callie who refused to leave his side and will miss him dearly. He loved playing fetch with his cat, Muffin. He and his daughter had a rabbit named Lovey that loved to play chase. He shared pistachios on the porch with his canine friend Lady and Ole Buck loved his baths and always fell asleep during them. All these animal friends have passed on including Donnie’s beloved chihuahua for 13 years, Chloe who absolutely adored him and loved to share his butter toast. Donnie will be sadly missed, but in his words, “I’m not saying goodbye, I’m saying See ya Later” Donnie's family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for him. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 5th, 2023, in the funeral home chapel, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105. A reception at the funeral home will follow.
