Dorothy Paskan Hird

Dorothy Ann Paskan Hird, 88, of Charlotte, died Monday, September 30, 2019, at Atrium Health Main Campus in Charlotte. Dorothy was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 6, 1930, the daughter of John and Ann Paskan. She attended Jane Addams High School in Cleveland and went on to work as an administrative assistant for the Charlotte Symphony. Dorothy met Mr. Richard Hird and they were married for 21 years before he preceded her in death in July of 1977. Dorothy enjoyed many things in life. She was a member of a bridge club for 40 years; and she enjoyed sewing, reading and gardening. From family vacations at the beach, going to Europe, visiting Arlington and the Grand Canyon, and visiting Maine, Dorothy also enjoyed traveling. Most of all, though, she cherished the time spent with family and friends. She counted being a mother to four children, a successful career and having many friends as some of her most significant accomplishments in life. Dorothy is survived by her children: Karen (husband Lester) Galyon of Chickamauga, Georgia; Sandra Dickinson of Charlotte; Diane (husband James) Efird of Charlotte; and Robert (wife Jill) Hird of Charlotte. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Craig (wife Ashley) Dickinson of Indian Trail, NC; Katie (husband Jason) Seagle of Denver, NC; Rachel (husband Jason) Trundle of Chickamauga; McKenzie Hird of Chapel Hill, NC; Michael Galyon of Philadelphia, PA; Eric Galyon of Denver, CO; and Corey (wife Cathy) Stancombe of Charlotte. Dorothy is further survived by a sister, Shirley Leslie of Matthews, NC; seven great grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends. Dorothy’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them. Friends may call upon the family from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 1, and from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 2, at the funeral home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105. At 2:00 on Wednesday, a service honoring the life, love and blessing of Dorothy will be held in the chapel of the funeral home with a reception to follow. The family will gather at a later time for burial at the Steele Creek Presbyterian Cemetery.
