Douglas Miller

Douglas Miller, 31, of Charlotte and formerly of Hillsville, Virginia, died unexpectedly at his home in Charlotte on Sunday, October 15, 2023. Doug was born at the Womack Medical Center in Fort Bragg (now Fort Liberty), NC, on January 30, 1992, the son of Keith and Katrina Rigney Miller. He grew up in Carroll County and graduated from Carroll County High School with the Class of 2010, a straight A honor student as well as a trumpet player in the Marching Band. Doug set high standards for himself. Always rooting for the underdog and standing up to bullies, Doug made many friends through life and his desire to help others shone through in all he did. After high school, Doug went on to attend Virginia Tech. In his Junior year; Doug, in his hardheaded, stubborn and passionate way, left shy of getting his degree to pursue his life’s goal of modeling and acting. With no money, he headed off to New York City in pursuit of that dream. He found it challenging, and after earning money by posing without his shirt on with people for pictures on the street, he earned enough money to return home. Doug eventually went on to become and IT Project Manager for Bank of America and had lived in Charlotte for about 3 years after living in Georgia for a time. He never really lost touch with his life’s passions, however. What Doug loved most was people, especially his family. He would give anything to anyone, and even when cold outside, would take of his coat to give to those who didn’t have one. When sharing his life stories, he was an awesome storyteller. He would take his acting chops and put them into his storytelling and his animations only added to the story! And for his troubles, Doug was best rewarded with laughter. He enjoyed making people laugh and though his sense of humor may have been inappropriate at times, everyone was attracted to and quick to call Doug their friend. If there were things in Doug’s life that he was super passionate about, you knew it was his leather jacket, his expensive cigars, his nice cologne and above all else, his hair. Doug had an uncanny ability to draw the attention of a room to himself and do so just because he made everyone else around him laugh and feel good. Doug is survived by his best friend and partner, Juanito F. “Jay-Jay” Lomboy; his parents: Katrina Miller-Weber; his father, Steven Keith Miller; his siblings: Vanessa Leigh Jones, Rebecca Faith Miller, Daniel P. Miller, and David Jacob Miller; his aunts and uncles: Linda Kerschner, Ronnie Miller, Glenn Miller, Charlotte Rigney and Sara Brigdon; his cousins, Brandi Hunley, Clark Kerschner, Christopher Kerschner, Emilee Shrewsbury and many more. In addition to his beloved dogs, Ruvic and Lillith; Doug is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends. A traditional Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 pm on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Blue Ridge Fellowship. Please have all flowers delivered directly to Blue Ridge Fellowship. Following services, Doug will be laid to rest on the grave of his great grandmother, Audrey Rigney, in Moneta, Virginia. A non-traditional Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Old North State Winery, 308 N Main St, Mt Airy, NC 27030. Come prepared for an afternoon of refreshments and storytelling.
