Evelyn Griffin Hastedt

Evelyn Griffin Hastedt, 86, of Charlotte, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the Novant-Presbyterian Hospital Main Campus. Evelyn was born in Huntersville, NC, on April 4, 1927, the daughter of William Collett and Mary Simpson Griffin. She grew up in Mooresville, NC, until moving to Charlotte in 1958 with her husband and children. Evelyn was known for her strong Christian faith and loved her church and church family at Emmanuel Baptist Church in the Oakdale Community. Mother was truly the rock of her family’s foundation. She held her family together with her faith and loving kindness during many hard times faced in recent years. After raising her children, Evelyn went to work with the Charlotte Mecklenburg School Cafeteria serving at North Mecklenburg High School and later at Paw Creek Elementary for many years. She later went to school so that she could study to be a CMS cafeteria manager, which she became at Shamrock Elementary for many years until retiring in 1989. Evelyn enjoyed her church family and playing cards, but what she took the most pride in was her family and she will be sadly missed by them and all who knew her. She is survived by daughter, Cathy Hastedt Dillard of Charlotte; son, Chuck Hastedt Jr (wife Dianne) of Mount Holly, NC; three grandchildren: Jeff Dillard (wife Cyndi) of Charlotte, Jennifer Dillard Moroch (husband Chris) of Troutman, NC, and Niki Hastedt Barnette (husband Jeremiah) of Cowpens, SC. Further surviving her are seven great grandchildren: Skylar Freeman Dillard of Charlotte; Cassidy Barnette, Stephanie Barnette, and Hailie Barnette of Cowpens; Payton Terry of Benton Harbor, MI; and James Moroch and Emma Moroch of Troutman; and numerous other family and friends. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Mildred Robertson of Mooresville and Perry Neville of Charlotte, a brother Johnny Griffin Sr. of Manning, SC, a son-in-law Jimmy Dillard of Charlotte, and a great granddaughter Daisy Ray Morgan Barnette of Cowpens. Visitation will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 600 Peachtree Road, Charlotte, NC 28216. Funeral services led by Pastor Glenn Flowe and Rev. John Johnson will follow at 3 PM. Following services, a procession will be held to take Evelyn to her final place of earthly rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. Memorials in Evelyn’s name to Emmanuel Baptist Church, her faith home for over 55 years, deeply appreciated.
