Gary Robert "Robby" Johnson Jr

Gary Robert Johnson, Jr, 43, affectionately known by his friends and family as “Robby”, passed away unexpectedly on December 9, 2013. Robby was born in Charlotte, NC, on March 25, 1970, the son of Gary and Georgia (nee Matson) Johnson. He graduated from Independence High School in 1988 where he was a member of the National Honor Society and was also an Eagle Scout. Robby was also a member of Third Presbyterian Church. After school, he joined the US Navy where he proudly served all of us and his country, something he was always proud to say and be a veteran. Currently, Robby had been working as an electrician for ERCO. Robby never met a stranger and he had the unique ability to make anyone laugh. To that, he added a special relationship with every member of his family. If you were his friend, you were blessed with a precious love and devotion. Robby is survived by: his parents, Gary Sr and Georgia of Matthews; two sisters: Lori Taylor (husband Mark) of Charlotte, and Kelly Eversole (husband Brian) of Cornelius; a special niece, Scarlett Eversole; four aunts: Kathy Matson of Matthews, Marianne Wilkinson (husband Mike) of Charlotte, Gail Miller of Newton, NC, and Joanne Simpson of Charlotte; two uncles: Ted Johnson of Charlotte and Tommy Snodgrass of Newton, NC; four cousins: Mark Simpson of Charlotte, Billy (wife Cindy) Simpson of Huntersville, Shannon Harvell of Charlotte, and Matthew Daggett of Charlotte; four second cousins: Daryl, David, Kenan, and Alex; and two third cousins, Noah and Alexis. He is further survived by numerous other family and friends. In addition to being his brother-in-law, Robby considered Brian his soul brother and best friend. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Mary Snodgrass and Kathleen Matson. Services led by Pastor Jay Weigel and honoring Robby’s life will be held on December 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Third Presbyterian Church, 4019 Central Ave, Charlotte. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the services. A private interment will be held at the National Cemetery in Salisbury at a later date.
