James Foster Ammons Jr

James “Jim” Foster Ammons, Jr, 87, of Lake Wylie, SC, with his family at his side, went home to his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 21, 2014. He was born into this world on September 21, 1927 and was received into his heavenly home on his 87th birthday. Jim was born in Charlotte, the son of James Foster Ammons and Rosa Hudson. He graduated from Central High School and later attended Georgia Tech University. Jim faithfully served in the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge. His lifetime career was retail management. In 1983, he married Ms. Gail Brown. Jim enjoyed playing tennis, going to the gym and bible study. He was also proud that his family was one of the charter members of Calvary Church, where he and his wife are current members. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with family and friends and he will be missed by those who knew him. During his illness over the last three years, he never complained. Jim was a testimony to prayer and the power of Jesus Christ. He exemplified this love of Christ through gratitude, humbleness, and kindness towards others. Jim is survived by his wife, Gail of Lake Wylie; four children: a son Jim Ammons III of Concord, NC and his children Lindsey Ammons and Michael Ammons; a daughter Joyce (husband Gerald) Krimminger of Concord, NC, and their children Jennifer (husband Sherrill) Cody, Melissa (husband Travis) Hartsell, and Landis Mangum; a daughter Janet (husband Mike) Barker of Concord, NC; and a son he loved as his own, Charles (wife Gina) Moore of Lake Norman, NC, and their children Kensley and Amy. Jim is further survived by 4 great grandchildren and was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. Jim’s family will receive friends starting at 11:00 on Thursday, September 25th in the chapel of Calvary Church, 5801 Pineville Matthews Road, Charlotte, NC 28226. The service will be held at 12:00 by Dr. Munro. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, Magnolia Gardens, immediately after the service.
