Jane Harrelson McElwee

Jane Harrelson McElwee, 93, of Charlotte, peacefully passed into God’s arms at home on March 22, 2023. She loved her family fiercely and had a joyful faith-filled life. Her laugh and hugs will remain in our hearts forever. Through the blessing of hospice and as she wished, she was able to be at home comforted and cared for by her family and her beloved 14 year old cat, Pixie. Jane, born Nettie Jane Harrelson, arrived in this world on August 26, 1929, in Gresham, South Carolina. After graduating from high school in Columbia, SC, Jane went to work for radio station WIS in Columbia. There, she met the man who would become her husband, Russ McElwee. They were blessed with three children and in 1956, they moved to Charlotte where she has resided since. In addition to being a busy homemaker, Jane had a successful career as a manager for Ivey’s and Belk’s Fine Jewelry Department. When not working, Jane enjoyed oil painting, cooking, and spending time in her yard gardening and at the beach. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian in her younger years with her husband and children. Most of all, Jane loved the time spent with family and friends. She is survived by her children: Athleen Jane McElwee of Charlotte, John Russell McElwee III (wife Anne) of Matthews, and Mary Catherine McElwee Andrews (husband Grady) of Pelham, AL; grandchildren: Caroline Douglas Tzoris (husband Billy), Russell Bentley McElwee, Ross Andrews and Max Andrews (wife Kelsey); and great grandchildren: Madison Anne Morris and George Russell Tzoris. She is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends. Jane was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John Russell McElwee, to whom she was married for 57 years. Jane’s family will host a celebration of her beautiful life in the near future. Her family has given Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them. Private graveside services are to be held 2PM April 3rd at Laurelwood Cemetery in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Jane was laid to her final place of earthly rest next to her husband, Russ.
