Kasie Covington Hanigan

Kasie Covington Hanigan, 44, of Mint Hill, took her father’s hand and marched—absolutely in step—into heaven on March 19, 2026. If there’s a celestial clipboard, she’s already reorganized it. Born in Charlotte on July 22, 1981, Kasie was the daughter of John and Windi Renfro Hanigan and a proud graduate of Butler High School. After 9/11, when most people were still trying to process the news, Kasie did what Kasie always did: she acted. She answered her country’s call and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, beginning a 13‑year career as a Career Retention Specialist. In other words, she kept Marines in line, in uniform, and on duty—because who was going to tell her no? She was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant, a rank that suited her natural authority and her gift for getting things done correctly the first time. After returning to Mint Hill, Kasie poured her time into the people she loved. She traveled, cared for her family, and became the fiercely devoted daughter who helped her mother, grandmother, and especially her father, whom she now joins in eternal peace. Her attention to detail was legendary. If you tried to help her with something, she’d let you… briefly… before taking over because she knew—accurately—that she could do it better. Kasie had a long list of earthly joys: Amazon packages (which may now cause a noticeable dip in the company’s quarterly earnings), beach trips, skiing, sunglasses, and Nike shoes—but only Jordans, because standards matter. She adored her dog, Tank, who was always unconvinced that anyone else was qualified to fill her role. She was an excellent cook, feeding others with the same generosity she brought to every part of her life. Most of all, Kasie loved caring for people. Whether doting on her niece Chloe, tending to her father, or helping the many who sought her out, she lived a life defined by service. Her final act on this earth was helping someone—because of course it was. But let’s be clear: she balanced her compassion with a quick wit and sarcasm so fluent it could have been listed as a second language on her Marine Corps paperwork. Kasie is survived by her mother, Windi; her sister Brittany and husband Kevin; her niece Chloe; and her grandmother Louise Renfro. She is further survived by numerous relatives, friends, and a collection of immoral cousins who know exactly who they are. A gathering of friends and family will be held Sunday, March 29, from 2 to 4 PM at The Hill Bar and Grill in Mint Hill, where stories will be shared, laughter will be loud, and Kasie’s spirit will be right at home.
