Larry Wayne Risser

Larry Wayne Risser, 66, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on May 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, devotion, and quiet strength. Born in Georgetown, Delaware, Larry was the beloved son of Wayne and Ellen Risser, who preceded him in death. Larry graduated from high school and soon answered a calling larger than himself. In August of 1979, he enlisted in the United States Navy, beginning a distinguished 23-year career marked by discipline, integrity, and unwavering commitment. Serving as a Lab Technician, he earned the respect of peers and superiors alike, ultimately retiring with an honorable discharge after more than two decades of faithful service to his country. It was during his Navy years that Larry met the love of his life, Ms. Carolyn. The two first crossed paths while sharing a hospital corpsman class—Larry heading to Oakland, Carolyn to Millington—but fate had other plans. They reunited and were married on March 28, 1981, in Dover, New Hampshire, beginning a partnership defined by loyalty, humor, and deep affection. In August of 2008, Larry and Carolyn made Charlotte their home. Larry continued his professional journey as a Data Programmer for Wells Fargo, bringing the same diligence and reliability to his civilian career that had defined his military service. Outside of work, Larry found joy in soccer. A proud season ticket holder for Charlotte FC, he loved the energy of the game and the camaraderie of the community that surrounded it. Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn, and their cherished daughter, Hannah Risser. He is further survived by his five siblings—Sue, Diane, Robert “Bob,” Donnie, and Tina—each of whom held a special place in his heart. In May of 2023, Larry was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He faced this battle with the same courage and resolve that had guided him throughout his life. His strength during this fight stands as a testament to his character. At Larry’s request, no formal services are planned at this time. Larry’s life was one of service—to his country, to his family, and to all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will endure in the stories shared, the love he gave, and the example he set.
