Lois Benton

Lois Genette Henderson Benton, 93, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Atrium Health in Charlotte. Lois was born in Duplin County, NC, on June 3, 1930, the daughter of Liston and Rotha Pierce Henderson. She graduated from Chinquapin High School and moved to Charlotte in 1956. She went on to attend Southeastern Beauty College, earning her stylist license. Lois worked for the LaMarick Salon inside the Belk Department Store in downtown Charlotte as well as for Roland’s Hair Salon. Her talents were passed onto her daughter, Donna Elaine, and Lois even had the joy of working for her daughter at her studio, Elaine’s Creative Hair Styles. In 1963, she married Max Benton, and they were blessed with two children: Donna Elaine and Charles. Through them, she was blessed to also be called “Mom”. Lois could be found enjoying other things in life: sewing, reading and gardening, She was also the proud owner of a blue 1966 Ford Thunderbird Landau, and enjoyed touring with “The Hornet’s Nest” car club. Most of all, Lois loved the time spent with others and she will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. Lois is survived by her children: Donna Elaine Alley and Charles (wife Donna) Brown; her grandchildren: Kenneth Knight, Karen Brown, Timothy Brown and Michael Brown; great grandchildren: Gabriel Knight, Tyler Brown, Parker Brown, Cambell Brown, Savannah Brown and Nicholas Brown; and her sister: Sadie Sparks. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members who called her grandmother, other relatives and friends. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and two brothers: Marvin Henderson, Harvey Henderson, Birdie Bond, Magdalene Sholar and Bertha Elston. Lois’ family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them. A valued member of the Gateway Baptist Church family, her services will be located at the church, 6321 Robinson Church Road, Charlotte, NC. Visitation will begin at 10 am on Monday, May 13, 2024, with the service to follow at 11 am. After the service, Lois will be taken in procession to her final place of rest at Charlotte Memorial Gardens, 7632 Hood Road, Charlotte.
