Marsha Elaine Williams

Marsha Elaine Deaton Williams, 74, of Charlotte, died Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Novant Health in Matthews, NC. Marsha was born in Charlotte on June 7, 1947, the daughter of Haskell and Mildred Price Deaton. She grew up in Charlotte, graduating from Garinger High School in 1965. Marsha worked in the mortgage banking industry for over 40 years, eventually retiring from Bank of America. While still in high school, Marsha met the love of her life, Arthur Haywood Williams, and were married for over 30 years before Arthur died in 2000. Marsha was a member of Grace Crossing Baptist Fellowship. When her daughter was a teenager, Marsha was involved in many youth activities including teaching Sunday School, and chaperoning various mission trips. She made many lifelong friends with the other parents of youth during this season of her life. She was a member of the church choir, a member of the Charlotte Choral Society and performed for many years in the annual Charlotte Christmas Tree programs. Marsha was often asked to sing at various family celebrations. Marsha spent her retirement years with family and friends, traveling to the South Carolina beach and North Carolina mountains, which may or may not have included trips to Cherokee casinos. Marsha is survived by daughter, Amanda (husband Mark) Poole of Charlotte; a granddaughter: Meredith (husband Alex) Adams and their children Barrett and Baker of Coleville, CA; and a grandson: Carson Poole of Charlotte, NC. Marsha is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Williams; and her two sisters: Terry Deaton (husband Bobby) Walker and Deborah Deaton Williams. Marsha was blessed to have very close relationships with her nieces: DeLaine McAlpine, Dawn (husband Robbie) Robbins and Kim (husband Chris) Marsh; and a nephew, Glen Williams; and many great nieces and nephews. After the death of Marsha’s husband and the death of her sister, Deborah, Marsha joined households with her Brother in Law, Ronnie Williams, where they became roommates, best friends and constant companions. Marsha and Ronnie traveled, ate out at their favorite restaurants (Sunrise Restaurant, House of Pizza, Chris’ Deli, Spoon’s BBQ, and many other old Charlotte traditions), and watched television together, especially General Hospital. Marsha loved her family, spoke her mind (sometimes without a filter), and shared concern and support for everyone in her life. She will be greatly missed. Marsha’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them. Services will be held at 5 pm on Thursday, July 8, in the funeral home chapel, 4715 Margaret Wallace Rd, Matthews. Visitation will be held from 4 pm until the time of service.
