Michael Young Lee

Michael Young Lee, 36, of Los Angeles, California and formerly of Charlotte, North Carolina, died unexpectedly at his home on December 16, 2023. Michael was born in New York City on August 21, 1987, the son of Ihl Jihn “Michael” Lee and Kyung “Rosa” Kim. His family moved to Charlotte, and he graduated from Myers Park High School. After graduation, Michael attended college at UNC Chapel Hill and studied abroad at the University of Beijing before returning to the United States and attending graduate school at UCLA with a focus in journalism. Michael was a gifted writer as well as a musician who could play violin and piano. Even without an instrument in his hands, he could make music with his voice as he could sing beautifully, having sung with the St Peter’s Boys Choir in Charlotte starting in elementary school and all through high school. Always one for new adventures, Michael also enjoyed travelling. Using his creativity and gift of expression, Michael found employment working as a marketing executive for LG America, and he lived in California for the past five years. Though working in marketing, he really wanted to move into writing short stories. His professor at UCLA, with whom he was corroborating with on a writing project, was so impressed with his work that he is finishing their project even though Michael can no longer assist him in finishing it. Most of all, Michael loved to be around other people and to make them happy. He saw the best in the world and truly made the world a better place. His laughter, love and friendship will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him. Michael is survived by his parents; his younger brother, Benjamin of Charlotte; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Michael’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for Michael and for them. Visitation and service will take place at the funeral home onTuesday, January 23, 2024, from 11 AM until noon. At noon, all will travel to Sharon Memorial Park where Michael will be laid to rest next to his grandmother at 12:30.
