Richard "Dickie" Ashley

Richard “Dickie” Ashley, 71, of Sophia and formerly of Charlotte, died March 30, 2015, surrounded by family at his home where he was blessed to be by the caring staff of Randolph County Hospice. Dickie was born in Union County on October 6, 1943, the son of William Kelly and Carrie Harkey Ashley. He grew up in Indian Trail and went into the construction trade after school. Dickie was gifted with the use of his hands and he could do most any part of the construction trade. When not working, he loved to play pool, throw horseshoes and driving his golf cart. He truly enjoyed life, never met a stranger, and would watch NASCAR regularly. Most of all, Dickie most enjoyed the time spent with family and friends and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda (husband Mike) Henderson of Sophia, NC; grandchildren: Michael Henderson Jr of Sophia, Tori Henderson of Sophia, Seth Henderson of Sophia, Candice (husband Richard) Ronquest of Charlotte, Richard (wife Ashley) Utley of Greensboro, NC, and Cami Utley of Randleman, NC; 10 great grandchildren including Nevaeh Utley, Hunter Brady, Presley Henderson, Brendon Utley, Piper Utley and Craven Utley Jr. Also surviving Dickie are his siblings: a sister Wilma (husband Bill) Steele of Edgemoor, SC, and their children Randy (wife Pat) Fowler and Karen Watts; a sister Erlene (husband Jackie) Clanton of Mint Hill, NC and their children Marty Clanton and Kevin Clanton; a sister Sue Tysinger of Harrisburg, NC; a brother Pete (wife Sherry) Tysinger of Murrels Inlet, SC, and their children Mike (wife Catherine) Tysinger and Chris Tysinger. He is further survived by his sister Linda’s children: Teresa Taylor, Johnny Kersey, Sandy Kersey and Andy Kersey; his good friend of over 40 years, Bobby Oliver; his three Chihuahuas - Diamond, Peanut, Trixie; and numerous other relatives and friends. Dickie was preceded in death 5 months ago by a daughter, Sherry; his parents; a brother, Kelly; a sister, Linda; his stepfather, Ervin; the mother of his children, Shirley; and a best friend who he thought of as a brother, Charlie “Chuckie”. Dickie’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for them. Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Good Friday, April 3, 2015, at the church cemetery of the historic Morningstar Lutheran Church.
