Robert Canipe

Mr. Robert Canipe, 91, of Charlotte NC, went to be with the lord on Wednesday, February 21th, 2024. Mr. Canipe is survived by his two daughters Gloria Canipe and Michelle Canipe of Charlotte NC. Grandchildren Christopher Bishop, Crystal Canipe, Roxanne Noble and Matthew Canipe as well as many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. He is also survived by a great granddaughter due in a month who will have a special guardian angel in her great grandfather! Mr. Canipe is preceded in death by his parents Cora and Frank Canipe. His wife, Barbara Canipe. His brothers James and Marvin Canipe and many other half siblings. Mr. Canipe came from humble beginnings. He was born May 29, 1932 in Racoon Valley TN outside of Knoxville. As a boy of 11 years old, he went to live with friends of family in Shelby, NC. He was raised on a farm and his two other brothers later joined him. He was a "good ole country boy" as they say with only a 6th grade education, however, he was smart and driven to succeed in life. As a teenager, Mr. Canipe, hitchhiked to work in Chicago, Georgia and Florida. Along the way he worked in the orange groves and eventually moved to Charlotte where he established a career as a printer for RPM Champion Maps from which he retired. Upon moving to Charlotte, his brother Marvin introduced him to Evelyn Ramsey, his coworker. Robert and Evelyn were married after 6 months of courtship and they went on to have two beautiful daughters. Robert enjoyed listening to Elvis, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and many more but loved Fats Domino the most. He loved to travel and would frequently make short day trips to the mountains and longer distance trips across the country with family, creating cherished memories along the way. He had a lifetime hobby of collecting coins and jewelry. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Robert was a strong man and fighter til the end who overcame many obstacles in his life. He had an easy spirit and great sense of humor. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all. Robert's family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for him and for them. A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 pm on Friday, March 1, 2024, in the funeral home chapel, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC. Friends may call upon the family from 1 pm until the time of service.
