Saundra Susan Sparks

Saundra Susan Kendall Sparks, 80, of Concord, died at her home on Saturday, November 26, 2022. Through the blessing of hospice, she was able to be surrounded by family when she passed. Saundra was born in Norwood, North Carolina, on July 7, 1942, the daughter of Harold and Susan Nichols Kendall. She grew up there and after graduating from Norwood high school, she attended Kings College. In 1961, she married Ted Huneycutt, and together they had two children, Douglas and Cynthia. In 1969, she married Dean Henry, who went on to adopt and be a father to her children as if they were his own. In 1991, she married Virgil Wayne Sparks, who preceded her in death in 2020. Together, Saundra and Wayne spent many happy years at Badin Shores. Saundra worked for a time at Belks and Welcome Wagon, but she was focused mostly on being a mother to her children. She spent the past 15 years of her career doing membership sales and service for the American Automobile Association (AAA), from which she retired around 2005. When not working, Saundra enjoyed socializing, especially lakeside at Badin Lake and dancing. Most of all, she loved the time spent with family and friends. Saundra took great pride in her appearance, and loved makeup and clothes. She always tried to look her best. Saundra is survived by her son Douglas (wife Lisa) Henry of Wilmington, NC; her daughter Cindy (husband Richard) Elmore of Concord; and a brother, Linwood Kendall (wife Becky) of Albermarle, NC. Saundra is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, Wayne, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Mike Kendall. Saundra’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, December 3, in the chapel of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105. Friends may call upon the family at the funeral home from 1 pm until the time of service.
