Teresa Cain Hughes

Teresa Cain Hughes passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, at the age of 69. She was born on November 19, 1956, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to the late Wilbur and Grace Cain. She was the proud mother of two children, Krista Smith and Joseph Kimrey, Jr. and the wife of Allen J. Hughes, with whom she shared more than 38 years of marriage filled with love, joy, and adventure. For much of her working life, Teresa was an entrepreneur who loved to make other people's homes beautiful hanging wallpaper. She was proud to have lived her entire life in North Carolina, living in Indian Trail, Charlotte, near Asheville, and later Mint Hill. Teresa loved to ride and drive motorcycles with her husband, Allen, traveling though many states. She cherished the freedom of the open road, the fellowship of fellow riders, and the beauty of God’s creation, often noting that the scenery was especially meaningful from the seat of a motorcycle. She was a longtime and faithful member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Charlotte. She served quietly and joyfully through her talents in knitting, sewing, and crocheting, supporting mission work, Vacation Bible School, and helping those in need. Her life reflected her deep faith and love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is survived by her husband, Allen Hughes; her daughter, Krista Smith (Reed) of Milton, Georgia; and her son, Joseph Kimrey Jr. of Asheville, North Carolina. She is also survived by her sisters: Susie Dowd (Steve) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Margie Simpson of Indian Trail, North Carolina; Shirley Dresch (Jeff) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Jean Philemon (Larry) of Monroe, North Carolina. Teresa is also survived by seven grandchildren: Dynise Kimrey of Asheville, North Carolina; Carson Smith, Trevor Smith, and Adelyn Smith of Milton, Georgia; Elizabeth Kimrey of Mint Hill, North Carolina; Logan Kimrey of Asheville, North Carolina; and E’niyah Kimrey of Asheville. Teresa will be remembered for her kindness, gentle spirit, faithful service, and the love she shared with family, friends, and her church community. A celebration of Teresa’s life will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 8947 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28227. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the service at 12:00 noon. Fellowship will follow at the church. In lieu of Flowers the family requests that gifts in Teresa’s memory be made to the Children’s Ministries of Cornerstone Baptist Church, 8947 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC 28227.
