Thomas Edward Emmett Sr

Thomas Edward Emmett, 73, of Charlotte, died suddenly on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. The son of John Edward and Dorothy Mae Vadican Emmett, Tom was born in Albany, New York, on June 28, 1944. After school, he spent 10 years serving in the US Army New York National Guard. Blessed with intelligence and the ability to work with his hands, Tom worked many jobs, including paralegal, lab technician, and the longest of which and from which he retired, apartment maintenance. On December 5, 1981, he married the love of his life, Ms Susan Katno, in Queens, New York. They moved to Florida for a time and in June of 1995, moved to Charlotte. Their move from New York to Florida then to Charlotte earned them the nickname of “Halfbacks” as Tom was halfway back to his original state of New York. In addition to work, Tom also enjoyed shopping, going on cruises, computers, and travelling, especially to Disneyworld. He was also a tinkerer, known for tackling and fixing most any project. Most of all, though, Tom was a people person and he loved spending time with others. Whether it was going out for coffee with friends at Penny’s Place or being “The Lap” for his grandson, Robinson, he was the type of spirit that was most at home with those he loved. He was truly a great family man, provider, and someone who was always willing to help family and friends… you would, of course, pay the small price of enjoying his humor and sarcasm however. He will be sadly missed by the many who were blessed to know him. Tom is survived by his wife, Susan of Charlotte; a daughter Sherilyn Campusano of Charlotte; a son Thomas Edward Emmett Jr of Lenoir, NC; grandson Robinson Campusano; and a sister, Diane Hughes of Albany, NY. He is further survived by numerous other family and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alice. Tom’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for them. Friends may call upon the family from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, April 20, and from 10 am until noon on Saturday, April 21, at the funeral home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews. At noon on Saturday, all present will gather in the funeral home chapel for a service to celebrate the life, love and blessing of this great man. Following the service, Tom will be taken to his final place of earthly rest at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Charlotte.
