Wilma Hodges Kish

Wilma Lee "Billie" Hodges Kish, 88, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, died Friday, February 5, 2021, at Novant Health in Mint Hill. Billie was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 12, 1932, the daughter of Robert and Leatha Robinson Hodges. She grew up there and after school, met a handsome young man named Joseph Kish. On February 23, 1952, they were married and remained lifelong friends and companions for almost 69 years. While Joseph worked for IBM and was the logical one, Wilma was more of the comedian, and Joseph setup many a joke for her to run with to the delight of their family! Billie was also an avid reader, floral designer and shopper. Even when her leg would bother her, it wouldn’t slow her down from going to most any bookstore or the Mint Hill Library. Proud of her Missouri heritage, Billie was a faithful and avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and could be found supporting her team enthusiastically for all her 88 years! What she most loved in life, though, was her family. She enjoyed doting on the many grandkids and eventually great grandkids. She will be fondly remembered for the many card games, UNO and checkers matches. Wilma is survived by three children: Stephen Kish of Mint Hill, Sharon (husband Lenny) Cordell of Concord, NC, and Susan (husband Kevin) Klein of Memphis, TN; seven grandchildren: Michael (wife Lauren) Kish, Katie (husband Ryan) Cachilli, Emily (husband Billy) Balshuweit, Sean (wife Teigan) Foley, Jacob (wife Lindsay) Cordell, Andrew (wife Miranda) Cordell, and Michael (wife Maggie) Klein; and eight grandchildren: MJ and Liam Kish, Elizabeth and Lucas Cachilli, Liam Balshuweit, Neala and Saoirse Foley, and Blye Klein. Billie is further survived by two cousins who were more like siblings: Peggy Haney and George Russell; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Billie’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. Services will be livestreamed at the link below.
