Beverly Miriam Paffrath Oburg, 78, of Matthews, died January 8, 2017, after a 4 year battle with Alzheimer’s. “Oma” was born in Elizabeth, NJ, on October 13, 1938, the daughter of the late Earl Bertram Paffrath and Audrey Seltzer Dresher Paffrath. She grew up in Cranford, NJ, graduating from Cranford High School, Class of 1956. After high school, she was a Barbizon model and attended Upsala College briefly, but ultimately finished college later in life, graduating from Montclair State University in 1988 with a degree in Business Administration. She worked for the Kinnelon school system for many years as a receptionist/secretary while her children were in grade school. Later she worked for E&J Gallo Wineries, East Coast distribution office for 17 years, retiring in 2006 and relocating to Fort Mill, SC to be closer to her grandchildren. Beverly loved all the arts; ballet, symphony, attending plays and concerts, especially in NYC while she was in the area but continued to attend many cultural events while in the Charlotte area as well. She was part of a group of ladies from northern NJ, referring to themselves as the “Sisters of Saratoga”, who once they discovered that the NYC Ballet practiced and performed in Saratoga, NY over the summer, they made an annual trip in August to attend the ballet and horse races and relax in the spa. The group went each year for nearly 30 years starting in 1977. She also loved to travel and took many trips all over the US and the world; Alaska, Europe, Spain, just to name a few. She had a small cabin in Rangeley, Maine for many years and loved spending time over the summer there and on the coast of Maine. Beverly is survived by her children; Kris Oburg Dell of Stallings, NC; Lynn Oburg of Charlotte, NC; and Marc Oburg and his wife, Cherie of Moore, SC. She is further survived by 3 grandchildren: Katrina Dell and Collin and Katelyn Oburg; her only sibling and sister, Holly Paffrath Parrott; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. A service to celebrate the love, life and blessing of Beverly will be held at 3 pm this Sunday, January 15, at 1/15 at the Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church, 501 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte. Friends wishing to visit with the family before the services may do so beginning at 1:30 in the church's JOY Outlook Room. The graveside interment will be held at 1 PM on Monday, January 16 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2410 Gentry Memorial Parkway, Pickens, SC, 29671. Beverly’s family has given the privilege of caring for her and for them to the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home. The family would also like to gratefully acknowledge the love and care shown to their mother by Unlimited Possibilities Family Care Home of Charlotte.
