Chi Chi DeCaro
January 17, 1946 - September 10, 2017
DeCaro, Chi Chi Chi Chi went home to her Lord on September 10, 2017, in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was born on January 17, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Charles J. and Vincenzina (Sparano) DeCaro. She moved to Orange, Connecticut in 1959, graduating from Amity Regional High School in 1964. She graduated from what is now Western Connecticut State University in 1968 with a BS in Education. She taught fifth grade at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Bethel, Connecticut and then at St. Cecilia’s Catholic School in Stamford, Connecticut. In 1971, she moved to Brookfield, Connecticut where she raised her family. She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1990. Music and dance were important parts of her life. She started dancing at four years of age and opened her own dance studio in her garage when she was 13 years old. She continued teaching, performing in, and choreographing many shows throughout much of her life in Orange, Woodbridge, Danbury, and Brookfield, Connecticut, where she was heavily involved in minstrel shows at St. Joseph’s Church. She was always grateful for the opportunities her talent gave her to develop the special friendships that resulted from those endeavors. To cherish her memories, she leaves behind: her beloved children, Christopher and Elisa Romaniello of Charlotte, North Carolina; brother Charles DeCaro of Phoenix, Arizona and his children (Victoria, Charles, Tony, and Vincent), brothers Stephen and Vincent DeCaro of Las Vegas, Nevada; her loving friend and ex-husband Paul Romaniello of Danbury, Connecticut; Aunt Joan Sparano and cousins Paula Ferrante, Joey Ferrante, Maria Casa, Chuck Casa, JoAnna Peca, John Sparano, Jane Wunderlich, and Sandra Galiano; her lifelong friend and “sister” Michelle Taliercio and her family; cherished friends in Charlotte, North Carolina and from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she worked at the J. Murrey Atkins Library for many years. She leaves to each of them the only thing that ever really mattered to her…Love. A wake service will be held at the Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home located at 4715 Margaret Wallace Road in Matthews, North Carolina on Thursday, September 14, at 7 pm, followed by visitation with family and friends until 9 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church located at 4207 Shamrock Drive in Charlotte, North Carolina on Friday, September 15, at 11 am.
