Franklin Craig Sullivan Sr, 84, of Charlotte, died Thursday, September 22, 2016, at the Carrington Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Matthews. Frank was born in Charlotte on August 8, 1932, the son of William Otho and Plunkett Ophelia Dixon Sullivan. He attended Sharon High School after which he answered his country’s call to service in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Following a four year enlistment, he was honorably discharged, and returned to Charlotte. Frank went to work driving truck for American Cyanamid, a career he spent over 30 years doing, before retiring. One year at the Mecklenburg County Fair, he met the love of his life, Ms. Nancy Joyce Byrd, who he went on to marry. Together they raised a family and celebrated 51 years of marriage before she preceded him in death in 2006. Frank enjoyed many things in life. In his younger years, he worked with boy scouts and served as a scout leader. A proud Free Mason, he attained the Shriner title and was associated with the Masonic Lodge of Matthews. Frank enjoyed square dancing, pottery, ceramics, fishing, woodworking and cooking, especially Thanksgiving breakfast at his church and dinner at his home. He was blessed to have many church family members as over the years he was a member of Sharon Presbyterian, Craig Avenue ARP and Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Most of all, Frank loved the time spent with family and friends and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Frank is survived his children: Craig Sullivan (wife Kim) of Thomaston, GA, Vicki Long of Waxhaw, NC, Julie Marsh (husband Wesley) of Mt Holly, NC, Scott Sullivan (wife Gale) of Waxhaw, NC, and Amy Blizzard of Stanley, NC; his grandchildren: Frank Sullivan III, Jessica Hampton, Michael Sullivan (wife Alycia), Amber Sullivan, Ritchie Long (wife Allison), Casey Long, Kristen Long, David Marsh (wife Rosa), Paul Marsh (wife April), Amanda Marsh, Noah Blizzard and Gabriel Wilkes; and a sister, Margaret Stanford of Pineville, NC. Frank is further survived by 15 great grandchildren with another soon to arrive; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers: Bill and Johnny Sullivan, and two grandchildren, Christopher and Ashley Long. Services honoring the life, love and blessing of Frank led by Pastor Arnold Kessler will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at the Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105. The family will receive friends at the funeral home starting at 10 am until the time of service. Following the services, Frank will be taken in formal procession to his final place of earthy rest next to his wife at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, The family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home has been given the privilege of caring for Frank.
