James Mullis

James Mullis, 54, of Rhimertown, NC, died on Monday, November 16, 2020, at Atrium Health Northeast Campus in Concord, NC. Jimmy was born in Charlotte, NC, on May 11, 1966, the son of James and Dolly Pace Mullis. He grew up in Charlotte, graduating from West Charlotte High School. Jimmy then attended Charlotte Truck Driving School for his CDL and he became an over the road truck driver, working for numerous freight lines in the area. Most remember him from his later years, however, as Jimmy also worked as an announcer and flagger for the Cleveland County Speedway. In 1999, a young lady named Tami Gregory wound up in a predicament. With tickets to a KISS Farewell Tour Concert and a date that had to cancel due to bronchitis, she asked a friend who she could take. Jimmy’s name came up and she went to his apartment to ask him to go with her. She found him playing Spades on Yahoo, invited him to the concert, and a year later they were married and the rest is history. An avid gun collector, Jimmy also enjoyed many of the things that the outdoors provided. From fishing to football, Jimmy enjoyed many things. Jimmy also had a large heart when it came to animals. When they first acquired the family farm, they noticed an increasing rodent presence. Starting with a few feral cats to control this issue, it developed into Tami’s Feral Car Farm where they eventually cared for dozens of cats at any given time. Most of all, Jimmy loved the time spent with family and friends. He was the only father Lauran has known since the age of 4, and she was a much a daughter as his other daughter Anna. When it came to love, Jimmy did so unconditionally and he will be unconditionally missed. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Tami; two daughters, Lauran and Anna; a son, Johnathan; and a grandson, Jay Jay. He is further survived by his mother, Dolly Mullis; his brother, David Mullis; aunts, Brenda Burgess and Cathy Smith; his 10 year old Plott Hound, Henry; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father in June of 2019. Jimmy’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for him and for them. Visitation will be held beginning at noon on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at the funeral home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105. At 1 pm, all present will gather in the funeral home chapel for a service led by Pastor Sammy Case honoring the life, love and blessing of this wonderful man. All services will conclude at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Jimmy would want donations in his name be made to his wife, Tami Mullis, in care of Tami’s Feral Cat Farm to ensure his “fluffs” continue to receive the love and care he showed them himself.
