August 9, 1958 - October 25, 2017
Jeffrey Neil Robinson, 59 of Union County, North Carolina, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Neil was born in Winston-Salem, NC, on August 9, 1958, the son of Mary Frances Tysinger Robinson and the late Ralph Duane Robinson. Neil was a life-long native of North Carolina, and grew up in Shelby, North Carolina. Upon graduation from Shelby High School, Neil went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he lettered while playing football for four years, was a James M. Johnston Scholar, was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma honorary society his freshman year, was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honorary society his junior year, as well as the Psi Chi psychology honorary society, and also served as a judge on the undergraduate honor court. In 1980, Neil received the Atlantic Coast Conference Award for Excellence in Scholarship & Athletics, and was graduated from the University with highest honors. Upon graduating from college, Neil was awarded a Kenan Scholarship to the University of North Carolina School of Law. While in law school, he served as a member of the North Carolina Law Review and on the Board of Editors of the North Carolina Law Review, as well as serving as an Instructor in Legal Writing and Research. In 1983, Neil began his legal career with the law firm of Farris Mallard Cummings & Booe, P.A., and later became a partner with Petree Stockton, LLP, one of the largest law firms in North Carolina. In 1997, the firm merged to form Kilpatrick Stockton LLP, one of the largest law firms in the country. Neil tried one of the longest, continuously-tried civil jury trials in the history of North Carolina (3+ months), and obtained (and collected on) one of the largest unfair trade practices verdicts and judgments ever entered in the state. In early 1999, Neil established Robinson Law Office where he brought his many years of big-firm experience to bear to achieve extraordinary results for his clients. Neil enjoyed an active life outside his practice. He was an avid horseman and outdoorsman who lived with his family on a small horse farm in Union County, North Carolina. But what Neil loved most was spending time with his family and friends and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Neil is survived by Jerri Lynn Robinson, mother of their five children, Jeffrey Neil Robinson, Jr., Jessica Gunn Robinson, Andrew Stuart Robinson, Wyatt Glenn Robinson, and Reilly Emma Robinson of Waxhaw, NC., his mother, Mary Frances Robinson of Waxhaw, NC, his brothers Kimball Duane Robinson (wife Alain) of Atlanta, GA and Christopher Edward Robinson (wife Tiffany) of Lexington, NC, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father. A visitation with his family will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, October 27, 2017, in Helms Hall at the Weddington United Methodist Church, 13901 Providence Road.
