Lawrence Eugene Hawse Sr

Lawrence “Larry” Eugene Hawse, Sr, 75, of Matthews, passed into the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at Novant Matthews Hospital in Matthews, NC. Larry was born in Aurora, IL, on July 9, 1946, the son of John Francis Hawse and Wilma Eileen Rawlins Hawse. He graduated from West Aurora High School and shortly after, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during a time when his country was engaged in the Vietnam War. He served faithfully, making service his career. He retired with honors as a Gunnery Sergeant with United States Marine Corps after 25 years and moved to Charlotte, NC. In 1987, he married Caroline Searles, and together had they had two children and enjoyed 33 years together until the time of his passing. Larry worked in various security management positions in Charlotte and at Inspiration Network in Indian Land, SC, for many years before retiring. Larry enjoyed spending time with his family and studying God’s holy scriptures. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Larry is survived by his wife, Caroline Hawse of Matthews, NC; six children: Sherry Ann Ottaway (husband Tim) of Prescott, AZ, Pamela Kay Smith (husband Jeff) of Tucson, AZ, John Ashley Hawse of Tucson, AZ, Bryan William Fawcett of Charlotte, NC, Christopher Douglas Hawse of Matthews, NC, and Candice Rae Rodgers (husband Anthony) of Mechanicsville, VA; twenty-two grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Larry also leaves his three sisters: Judith Lynn Coyne (husband Dennis) of Columbus, OH, Janice Lee Hearn of Gaston, SC, and Jacquelyn Kay Hawse of Charlotte, NC. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Lawrence Eugene Hawse Jr. Larry’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for Larry and for them. A celebration of life service officiated by Pastor Terry Prince of Gods Family Church will be held in the Lowe-Neddo Chapel on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at 2:00 pm. All services will conclude at the funeral home. Larry was a strong believer in the value of education and, therefore, the family would like to direct that any memorials honoring Larry be made to a 529 educational fund to support the education of his grandchildren.
