Mary Ellen Overfield
July 7, 1929 - January 13, 2018
NOTE SERVICE CHANGE FROM FRIDAY TO MONDAY Mary Ellen Overfield, named after her grandmothers, Mary and Ellen, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of January 13, 2018, at Carolinas Medical Center "Main", as her daughter, Linda, was talking to her, and caressing her face. Mary Ellen was born on July 7th, in Endicott, New York. Mary Ellen was married to Ronald E. Overfield, who died exactly two months before their 50th wedding anniversary, in 2005. She graduated from Vestal Central High School, at age 16, and attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts, until illness kept her from graduating. She is survived by her only daughter, Linda E. Overfield, after they both almost died during Linda's birth, and by Bud (Bettie) Woodcook, the last of 5 siblings, Sister in law Lois Woodcook, and several nieces and nephews. Mary Ellen played piano and Hawaiian Guitar, was a soloist, choir member, Vacation Bible School teacher, and nursery attendant at Riverview Alliance Church in Endicott, New York. She made beautiful clothes for herself and Linda, did needlepoint, and was a "Stay at Home" mom who worked as a bookkeeper and secretary in New York and Charlotte before Linda's Birth, and after Linda grew up. After receiving a perfect set of Lab Reports, and a scan showing her Colangial Carcinoma (cancer in the Liver's Bile duct) had not grown in 6 months, and told to return in June, she fell and spent Christmas day in the Hospital, where a new problem was found and treated. She returned to Carolinas Medical Center for dehydration, where a series of "missteps" caused her unexpected death. We are all heartbroken. Funeral services will be held in Calvary Church's Chapel, on Monday, January 22, 2018, at 1:00 O'Clock in the afternoon, followed by a brief visitation, and burial at Sharon Memorial Park.
