Ramiro Llerena
September 7, 1934 - April 16, 2021
Ramiro Llerena, 86, of Charlotte, died Friday, April 16, 2021, at Novant Medical Center Presbyterian Campus in Charlotte. Ramiro was born in Cartagena, Colombia, on September 7, 1934, the son of Francisco and Ercilia Rios de Llerena. He grew up with six siblings; Alfonso, Rodolfo, Ercilia, Regina, Julia and Frank. He worked at a factory and played on a professional softball team before coming to the United States at the age of 38, taking up residence in New Jersey. Four years later, he met his current wife, Vilma Mauri, and they were married in 1979. Ramiro loved working with his hands and continued this blessing by going to work for a school for autistic and special needs children. He was in facilities management which meant he did everything from repairing the buildings to driving the bus. He was loved by the staff and students. In 2016, he moved to Charlotte to be closer to his youngest daughter and where he had been a resident since. When not working, he enjoyed watching baseball, working on his car, listening to music, dancing and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by three daughters, Candelaria Llerena, Guadalupe Llerena and Joanna Llerena, his wife Vilma Llerena; and four grandchildren: Candelaria’s two sons Richard and Raul; and Guadalupe’s sons, Jhonny and Frank. Ramiro’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for him and for them. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 28, at the funeral home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105. At 10:30, all present will depart the funeral home for St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 8451 Idlewild Road, where a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM.
