Richard Bond Parcher

May 25, 1928 - June 24, 2019

Richard "Dick" Bond Parcher, 91, of Charlotte, died June 24, 2019, at Atrium Health, Pineville Campus. Dick was born in Keene, NH, on May 25, 1928. He grew up there and at the age of 17, answered his country’s call to service and enlisted in the United States Merchant Marines. After he turned 18, he transferred into the US Army where he proudly served in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II and saw duty in Italy. Upon an honorable discharge out of the Atlanta Processing Center in 1952, he and his family lived in the Atlanta area before coming to Charlotte, NC, five years later. Starting with Ballantyne Beer, Dick began a career in alcoholic beverage sales and distribution. He then went to work for Hans Holterbosch, a primary importer out of New York. He ultimately retired from that career. On July 16, 1950, he married Gloria Harris in Fayetteville, NC, at Fort Bragg while Dick was still in the service. When they returned to Charlotte, they became part of the church family at Matthews United Methodist Church. Dick enjoyed many things in life. Blessed with a talent to use his hands, he restored sports cars and antique automobiles. A member of AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America), Hornet’s Nest Region Car Club and the Early Ford V-8 Auto Club. He could fix most anything and when it was restored, he sold it and started on his next project. Most of all, what he loved most was the time spent with family and friends. Dick is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Gloria; two daughters: Karen (John) Turner of Garner, NC and Sandra (Paul) Sims of Indian Trail, NC; three grandchildren: Christan (Brian) Holt of High Point, NC, Kyle (Emily) Turner of Raleigh, NC, and DeLane (Jesse) Sims of Boiling Springs, NC; and four great grandchildren: Gabriel, Aidan, Turner and Benton. Dick is further survived by his brother, Robert “Bob” Parcher and numerous other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 5, 2019 at 11am with a Celebration of Life to follow there at Noon. Mr. Parcher's grandchildren will lead the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dick's name to the charity of your choice.
