Tonda Freeman Malcolm

October 3, 1972 - March 19, 2022

Tonda Freeman Malcolm, 49, of Matthews, died March 19, 2022, following a brave, two year battle with cancer. Tonda was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on October 3, 1972, the daughter of James Edward and Truman “Trudy” Deese Freeman Sr. She grew up there, graduating from West Charlotte High School in 1989. She attended college, and on January 23, 1995, she joined the Hendrick family in the automotive profession. Tonda started her career in an accounting role at Hendrick Lexus Charlotte, transitioned to the Charlotte Consolidated Accounting Office, and for the last 5 years, has been a Regional HR Manager supporting Charlotte, Northlake and Concord dealerships. When not working, Tonda loved going to the casino and enjoyed gambling, scratch off tickets, music and concerts. What Tonda was really about, however, was helping others. Whatever problems or challenges you encountered, she made it her problem and helped you navigate through it. It was in this capacity that she encountered many friends in both her professional and personal life, endearing her to so many and leading her to care for her parents and grandparents for many years. Truly, she was a beautiful spirit with an immense capacity to love and to help. Tonda is survived by her husband, Shayne; her sons Tyler Jordan Wilsman and Trent Michael Wilsman; her brother, James (wife Karen) Freeman Jr; her nephew Jason (wife Madison) Freeman, her niece, Brooklynn Freeman; and her uncle, Mike (wife Leela) Freeman. Tonda is further survived by numerous other relatives, friends, and of course, her extended family at the Hendrick Automotive Group. Tonda’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them. Visitation will begin at noon with service to follow at 2 pm on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at the Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Services will be livestreamed and a link will be posted here the day of the service.
