Wanda Lee Siminoff

August 16, 1934 - August 16, 2018

Wanda Lee Siminoff, of Monroe, died on her 84th birthday on August 16, 2018, at Union County Hospice House in Monroe. Wanda was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 16, 1934, the daughter of Robert Lee and Violet Pavao Hensley. Always a colorful spirit, she left home at 14 and headed for California. There, she danced and was even said to have dated Charles Bronson before meeting Albert Siminoff, a young sailor fresh out of the US Navy. They were married in Hollywood and as Albert was a native New Yorker from Queens, they drove cross country back to his home where she raised their family. The perpetual odd couple, Albert with his military fit and finish an Wanda with her eclectic, free spirit, they spent 54 years together before Albert preceded her in death. Wanda loved many things in life. She loved coffee, music, knitting, cooking, baking, sewing, baseball (especially the Mets), golf, the Olympics, and Bingo. Wanda was also a lover of books and knowledge. Though she could only read with one eye, she read more books, including the Bible, than most do with two eyes. She was also fond of obtaining knowledge from education television programs and was known to also enjoy reality shows and Ancient Aliens. At the age of 83, she learned how to use Facebook. And she could use the knowledge she gained. Wanda was very good at taking nothing and making something out of it. When her children needed clothes, she sewed them. When they needed treats for school, she baked. When they wanted playdough, she made it. She was colorful, spiritual, eclectic, and the type of mother every child wishes they had when they grow up. Most of all, she loved the time spent with others, especially her family, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Wanda is survived by her children: Louise Geary (partner Rupert Ross) of Flagler Beach, FL; Arlene (husband Joseph) Sander of Long Island, NY; Patricia Kiernan (partner Ofer Nadav); and Roseanne McArdle (partner Mark Edes) of Monroe, NC; 6 grandchildren: Elicia, Joey, Sara, Laura, John and Amanda; 6 great grandchildren: Amara, Noah, Victoria, Mikey, Ryan, and Marley; and was soon to be a great great grandmother. She is further survived by a sister, Nita; a brother, Jimmy; and numerous other family and friends. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband and a great granddaughter, Cambria. At Wanda’s request, there will be no formal services for her at this time. Instead, the family asks that you share your favorite memories and photos on her tribute wall and remember her as she was.
