Wilma Blakemore Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Wilma Blakemore, 71, of Charlotte, died Monday, July 29th at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville. Wilma was born in Charlotte on March 18, 1948, the daughter of Cody and Inez Potts. She grew up there and was a member of the first graduating class of Olympic High School. She worked outside the home for a bit at Central Carolina Bank and FedEx Freight, and she enjoyed music and animals; but Wilma felt most blessed to be a homemaker and care for her husband, Jimmy Robert Blakemore, and their children. Wilma is survived by her children: Michael (wife Natalia) Blakemore of Concord, NC, and Mendy (husband Brad) Freeman of Charlotte, NC; two grandsons: Shane (wife Brittany) Gilliland of Mint Hill and Joseph Neikirk of Hickory; a great granddaughter, Saylor Gilliland; and three sisters: Peggy Walters, Linda (husband George) Guy, and Jewel (husband Dennis) Myton, all of Charlotte. She is further survived by her rescue cat, “Lulu” as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Wilma’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them. A service honoring the life, love and blessing of her will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 31, in the funeral home chapel, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1:00 pm until the time of service. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Charlotte, NC 28227.
