Barbara Josephine Proctor Luke, 88, of Midland, NC, slipped peacefully from this life on May 29, 2026, at PruittHealth in Harrisburg, NC. Born on October 25, 1937, in Mullins, South Carolina, she was the cherished daughter of Rimland Carmichael Proctor and Christine Rogers. Her childhood in Mullins shaped her early years, and it was there that she first learned the quiet art of patience, care, and craftsmanship—qualities that would define her life. A graduate of Andrew Jackson Senior High School, Barbara possessed a natural gift with needle and thread. She became an exceptional seamstress, known for creating everything from everyday clothing to the most elegant formal dresses. Many brides walked down the aisle wrapped in the beauty of her handiwork, each stitch a testament to her talent, precision, and love for the craft. Barbara didn’t simply sew garments—she created heirlooms, memories, and moments. On November 16, 1957, she married the love of her life, John Colonel Luke Sr. Together they built a home anchored in devotion, laughter, and the steady rhythm of shared purpose. Barbara was blessed to be a homemaker, pouring her heart into caring for her family and the home they built together. In John’s later years, she cared for him with the same tenderness she brought to every part of her life. He preceded her in death in 2010, leaving a space she carried with grace. When her hands were not busy tending to her family or guiding fabric beneath her sewing machine, Barbara found joy in reading—quiet moments that allowed her to rest, reflect, and replenish. Barbara’s legacy continues through her children: Chris (wife Karen) Luke of Mint Hill, Linda (husband Danny) Rickenbaker of Charlotte, and James (wife Robin) Luke of Concord. She is also survived by her daughter‑in‑law, Cheryl Luke; her brother, George Tillotson; six grandchildren; and four great‑grandchildren, each a bright thread in the tapestry she leaves behind. In addition to her husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her son, John Colonel Luke Jr. Barbara’s family has entrusted the family of Lowe‑Neddo Funeral Home with her care. A private graveside service for family and close friends will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. A life like Barbara’s is not measured in years alone, but in the countless seams she mended, the garments she crafted, the home she tended, and the family she loved. Her hands may now be at rest, but the beauty she created—both tangible and immeasurable—remains stitched into the hearts of all who knew her.
