Deanna Martin Long

Deanna Martin Long, 78 of Charlotte NC passed away on June 19, 2022 at Levine and Dickinson Hospice House at Southminster. She was surrounded by her immediate family as she departed this world to meet her Lord and Savior and heavenly family. Deanna leaves behind her son, Samuel M. Inman IV of Charlotte, her daughter, Demarr M. Inman of Greensboro, NC. She is also survived by her sister, Vicki M. Love of Palm Harbor, FL, and nieces, Stephanie Love and Christina Love, and step-son, Timothy Long (Cynthia Long) of Charlotte. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leo Long; father, Earle W. Martin; and mother, Mae Martin. Deanna had such a generous, kind hearted spirit and had tremendous love for anyone she had ever met. She graciously showed this by volunteering and getting to know people within many communities. Deanna was a past State President of the NC VFW Auxiliary; President of VFW Auxiliary Post 9488 and President of NC District 13. As a member of Cokesbury UMC for 44 years, she proudly served as President and Teacher of Saints and Sinners Sunday School class; Chairman of Trustees & Finance, Secretary on the Administration Board and Co-Chair of the Lunch Bunch (Food Ministry Outreach) Deanna spent countless hours within the Easthaven Neighborhood community getting to know everyone who lived there. Over the years, she made it a point to welcome anyone that moved into the neighborhood. Deanna was honored to previously be a President, Vice President and Secretary of the neighborhood association. Last but not least, we shall not forget she was also secretary of Eastern Star Chapter Mizpah #36 (Charlotte) Deanna graduated from William Fleming HS (Roanoke, VA) and also attended Roanoke College (Salem, VA) and Queens College (Charlotte) Deanna courageously battled cancer after being diagnosed two years ago. With her tenacious will and determination, she was able to spend more time with her family and friends while receiving treatment. We would like to thank the medical professionals at Oncology Specialists of Charlotte (Dr. J. Favaro) and Urology Specialists Hawthorne (Dr. D. Watson) as she received the best treatment available to her before going into hospice care. Deanna bravely made the decision to receive care from Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region for the last six months of her life. Edye and Melinda, who were her primary health care professionals, were compassionate, empathetic, kind, and supportive as she wanted to have quality of life before transitioning to heaven. We would also like to thank her other hospice team members who made her life as comfortable as possible. Deanna had a zest for life, passion for cooking, and loved to entertain. She had the best social gatherings for great food, fun and fellowship. She had never met a stranger and would keep them as a lifelong friend. Deanna often spoke about “her bucket list” and up until her final days, stressed on the importance of not waiting until tomorrow and making it a priority of today. In lieu of flowers, Deanna had requested donations to be made in her honor to Cokesbury UMC and Eagle Rock Camp (Conover NC), online at www.eaglerockcamp.org Deanna’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them. The memorial service will be held at the funeral home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Rd Matthews, NC, on Saturday, June 25.
