Dorthey Jones Prather

Dorthey Lee Jones Prather, of Fort Mill, SC, died May 22, 2018, at the Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC. Born in Shelby, Dorthey moved to Charlotte when she was a child. She grew up in the original Noda area when it was still called North Davidson. She attended Harding High School and after, married Donlee Jackson Prather. Together they had three children. In her 30’s, she won a bowling championship. Dorthey also loved animals, and was known to have both cats and dogs for pets. Most of all, she loved the time spent with family and friends. Whether being a den mother for her son’s cub scouts group or time spent with grandchildren, family took precedence over any other personal endeavors and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her son, Richard Prather of Fort Mill, SC; five grandchildren: Laneya Renee Axson of Charlotte NC, Amber Nicole Howie of Greensboro, NC, Lloyd James “Felix” (wife Katy) Axson of Monroe, NC, William Michael Howie of Columbia, SC, and Zachary Jackson (wife Cashia) Howie of Gastonia, NC; and two siblings: Jean Grayson of Mint Hill, NC, and Anne Winkler of Huntersville, NC. Dorthey is further survived by 9 great grandchildren, 1 great grandchild on the way, and numerous other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her children Donna and Donlee Jr. Dorthey’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for them. Services will be held at the funeral home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, on May 25th, 2018. The family will receive friends beginning at noon. At 1 pm, all present will gather in the chapel as Mr. Michael Neddo leads a service honoring the life, love and blessing of this wonderful woman. After the service, all present are invited to join the family in formal procession to Charlotte Memorial Gardens where Dorthey will be laid to her final place of earthly rest.
