Elsie Morgan Deason

Elsie Morgan Deason, 87, of Charlotte, went home to her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 27, 2014. Elsie was born in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, on June 19, 1926, the daughter of Vanny and Carmie Morgan. She grew up in Kershaw and after school, worked at the Springs Mill in Lancaster. She met a young man by the name of Paul Deason and on April 7, 1945, they were married in Lancaster. In 1959, she and Paul moved to Charlotte. Together, they started and operated “Insurance World”, an insurance agency that they ran for 34 years. Faith was very important to Elsie, and after she and Paul “retired” from the insurance business, they devoted their time to the church community. As faithful members of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Elsie and Paul ran the tape ministry dedicated to distributing the recorded messages of faith from the church. While Paul would be operating the duplication machinery, Elsie would be applying the labels identifying the cassette one at a time by hand. The fruits of their efforts helped to spread the messages of hope and comfort to those who relied on the tape ministry for outreach. When she was at home, Elsie enjoyed cooking and serving others. Most of all, Elsie loved her family and friends, and she was always thinking of others. She will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Paul Deason; three children: Kathryn Deason of Charlotte, Terry (husband, Lindsay) Abee of Harrisburg, and Philip Deason of Charlotte; grandchildren: Amy (Walter) Bundy of Concord, David (Lorissa) Griggs of Granite Quarry, NC, and Jeffrey Abee of Harrisburg, NC; great grandchildren: Austin, Justin, and Jeremiah; Codie, Dallas, Brooklyn, Caleb, and a sister, Margie. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Paulette Griggs; and nine siblings. Services honoring Elsie will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte. Friends wishing to call upon the family may do so at the church from 2 PM until the time of service. Following the services, Elsie will be taken in procession to her final place of earthly rest at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Charlotte.
