Fairy Ragan

Our beloved Fairy Ragan has gained her wings on the evening of January 6th, 2023, while resting in the comfort of her own home. She was surrounded with close family and friends and the song “Amazing Grace” being sung to her by her God niece, Kelly Flock. Fairy’s 10 year battle with lung cancer has now ended, but her spirit and light will continue to glow. Fairy was born in Wadesboro, NC but later moved to Charlotte, NC where she became a Majorette and graduated from Independence High School. One of Fairy’s accomplishments that she loved to tell people was that she retired from BellSouth after 35 years of service, April 25, 1971 to March 14, 2006, as a drafted technician. Fairy loved spring flowers and especially the color pink. If you were to ask her about some of her favorite memories, she would tell you about a time she went canoeing on the Chattanooga River with her best friend, Sandra. Or she might tell you about all the games she would attend and cheer for “her boys” playing baseball, football, basketball, you name it! She was definitely a cheer mom to all her kids and grandkids, and usually the one with the cowbell or blow horn! One of the many hidden talents “Our Fairy” had was her singing. She may have like to sing, but she loved dancing more! Fairy also enjoyed cooking and having a good time with family and friends at holiday gatherings. She is now watching over her daughter, Angela Alvarez and son-in-law Alex Alvarez; her son, B.J. Ragan and daughter-in-law Ebony Ragan; her son Timmy Ragan. Her honorary kids: Carrie and Darrin Duston, Scot and Shelley Allen and Lisa Leathers; her sister, Traci Biggers; her aunt who raised her, Betty Jean Huffstellar; her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Giovanni Alvarez, Royalty and Prince Graham, MyAngel, Immanuel, Jordyn and Rhyliegh Ragan, and Aaron, Emily and Aiden Ragan; her niece, Carrie Flock; great niece and nephew Riley and Torie Flock. Honorary grandchildren and great grandchildren: Bailey, Blake and Syndey Duston, Kayla Yarbrough and Cameron, Casey and Caden Allen; Harper and Crew Duston, karter and Lucus Fite, Skylar Leathers and Haizlee Patterson; and close friend, Patricia Flock. Fairy is survived by numerous other relatives and friends. Going on before her and welcoming her into her heavenly home are her father, Joseph Benjamin Powell, her mother Irene Culley Powell; her sisters: Betty Joe Powell and Rene Flock; a brother David Lankford; a grandson, Alex Alvarez; a Goddaughter Emily Leathers; and best friend Sandra Leathers with Van Leathers. Fairy’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them. Services honoring her life, love and blessing will be held at 5 PM on Friday, January 13, in the funeral home chapel, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105. Friends may call upon the family at the funeral home from 4 PM until the time of service. All services will conclude at the funeral home. If anyone wishes to send flowers, please have them sent to the funeral home for the service.
