Frankie Washam Lee

Frankie Washam Lee, 89 of Charlotte, died peacefully in her sleep Friday, November 22, 2013. She was born in Cornelius, North Carolina, on May 16, 1924. Frankie was a loving wife, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of over 60 years, Bill, and a beloved sister, Estha Elder. A longtime resident of Charlotte, they lived for several years in the "country" where she was well known for her bountiful garden, the vegetables she grew, canned, and shared with family, friends and neighbors. She was fondly remembered among loved ones for her talents in the kitchen and at her sewing machine. She is survived by a son, Mac Lee and wife Susan of Waynesville, NC; daughter Melody Smith and husband Todd of Burlington, NC; daughter Beverly Lee of Charlotte; grandchildren: Andrew Lee, William Lee, Dustin Smith and wife Ashley, and Alexa Smith; a great granddaughter, Aralyn Smith; and her loving loyal companion, Maisey, her "watchcat". The family would like to share a heartfelt thanks to Kellie James who has cared for Mom with amazing love and devotion for the past 3 years, and to Sumner Stancill, Laura Stancill, Shirley Nail, and Anna Strickland who have also cared for her with patience, kindness, and love. Recently, a bright spot in Mom's day was the daily visits of her dear, loving friend and "soul mate", Marjorie Kale, whose love has filled all our lives. A memorial service to celebrate the blessing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and the friend that she was to all, will be held at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, in the chapel of Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Prior to the service, a private inurnment service will be held for the family at the church columbarium. Those wishing to visit with the family will be received immediately following the memorial service.
