Gordon Kent Booher

Gordon Kent Booher passed away on September 26, 2023 at 7:00 am at home surrounded by his loving family. Visitation with family will be at Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home on 4715 Margaret Wallace Road in Matthews, NC 28105 at Noon - 1 pm on Monday, October 2, 2023. A military graveside service will be held afterwards at Charlotte Memorial Gardens on 7632 Hood Road in Charlotte NC, 28215 from 1:30 - 2:30 pm officiated by his son-in-law, Rick Calloway. Gordon was born May 15,1934 in Bristol,TN, a son of the late William Arthur Booher and Blanche Stophel Booher. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Booher Wilson, and brothers William "Billy" Arthur Booher, Jr, Lloyd "Cotton" Max Booher, Lawrence "Pete" Evans Booher, Claude Lynn Booher, Theodore "Ted" Ryal Booher. Sisters Barbara Jane Booher Whitson,Lois Booher Usher, Reta Booher Dowell. He is survived by his wife of 65 year, Clara Castle Booher, his daughter Susan Booher Calloway, son-in-law David Ricky Calloway, grandson David Shane Calloway, his brother Counce Clay Booher and his sister Eloise Booher Bentley. He graduated in 1953 from Holston Valley High School, joined the US Army August 4, 1953 - August 3, 1956. His military awards were Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, Commendation Ribbon with metal pendant, National Defense Service Medal, and United Nations Service Medal. He completed Leadership School at Ft Jackson, SC, Supply School in Seoul, Korea, and separated from Ft Benning, GA. He worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co for 31 years from November 1956 - 1987. He trained as a Branch Manager in El Paso, TX and retired as a Senior Field Auditor while living in Atlanta, GA before returning home to Charlotte, NC. He was the Men's Class teacher and a Deacon of Plaza Baptist Church before moving to Atlanta, and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church after returning to Charlotte. Our family would like to honor and extend our love to the caregivers of our Novant Hospice team, who went beyond the call of duty in their care of Gordon. More thanks than we can convey are owed to Lynde, Valerie, JuTina and to our precious Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, for His extravagant gift of eternal life.
