John Ignatius Slezak Jr.

John Ignatius Slezak Jr., 79, of Charlotte, passed away on Monday November 9, 2015 at Carrington Place Nursing Home after a long battle with Parkinson’s. John was born on January 14th, 1936 in Poughkeepsie, NY to John and Elizabeth Slezak. John was the only son. John was raised by his step dad Byron Stickle who married Elizabeth Slezak. John is survived by his wife Louisette Slezak of Charlotte with two sons Phil Slezak and his wife Sandy Slezak of Apex, NC and Pierre Slezak and his wife Kim Slezak of Charlotte and two grandchildren Daniel Slezak and Taylor Slezak of Charlotte. John is also survived by a cousin Lynn Slezak of Pleasant Valley, NY. John served three years in the Army and was a police officer in Poughkeepsie, NY. After spending the summers in Westbrook, Connecticut with the family, John moved his family from Poughkeepsie, NY and started his own company building homes in Connecticut for over 30 years. John and his wife moved to Charlotte in the late 1990’s to be near their grandchildren in Charlotte. John was best known for his love of bowling, tennis, golf, hunting and water sports. John started and coached the Westbrook Dolphins Pop Warner Football program and coached Little League baseball in Westbrook, Ct. John was known as Papa D when coaching the Westbrook Dolphins. John played the accordion and had a love for that old country music. John was a hard worker to provide the life he felt his family deserved and passed his knowledge down to his children with the values of hard work to be successful in life. The family would like to extend an immense amount of gratitude to the caregivers from Carrington Place Nursing Home in Matthews the compassionate staff allowed John to live his remaining days with independence and surrounded by love. John’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for them. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials in his name be made to Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
