Judy Bonnell Jacobs

Judith “Judy” Ann Bonnell Jacobs, 73, of Charlotte, died Saturday, February 13, 2016, at the Wilora Lake Care Center where she had been staying. Judy was born in Haverhill, Mass, on April 29, 1942, the daughter of John Robert and Rosalie Noonan Bonnell. She grew up there, started college and moved to Charlotte in 1971 where she finished her degree in Early Childhood specializing in Special Education. She taught at the Carlton G. Watkins Center where she retired from in 2003. On November 12, 1971, she married Bruce R. Jacobs in Charlotte. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2011. Judy loved to cook, sew, and was a member of both Lamp Light Church for 30 years and the Handprints Ministry, a sign language ministry group based in Concord, NC. She was very outgoing and loved spending time with people. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends and she will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know her. Judy is survived by six children: Mark (Ann) Jacobs of Charlotte Margaret Lemmond of Indian Trail Heather (Derrick) Cope of Clover, SC Daniel (Kathy) Jacobs of Gastonia, NC Laura (David) Booth of Albermarle , NC John Michael Jacobs of Belmont, NC Six grandchildren: Wesley Cope; Joshua and Kylie Jacobs; Brooke and Dakota Honeycutt; and Dylan Jacobs; an adopted grandson, Dexter Armstrong of Topeka, KS; and special friends Eileen Jones and Sameemah Wilburn, both of Charlotte. Judy is further survived by brothers: John (Elaine) Bonnell of Berwick, Maine, and Michael (Elaine) Bonnell of Beauford, SC; and numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. A celebration of the life, love and blessing of Judy will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at East Baptist Church, 6850 Monroe Road, Charlotte. The family will receive friends at 11 am followed by services led by Pastor Chad Cozad at noon. Following services, Judy will be taken in formal procession to her final place of earthly rest next to her husband Bruce at Sharon Memorial Park.
