Kari Keziah Helms

Kari Alisha Keziah Helms of Indian Trail, with her family surrounding her, left this earthly home for her heavenly one on Sunday, April 26, 2015. The infectious blessing of love and laughter that was Kari began in Charlotte 30 years ago on January 10, 1985. One of three daughters born to Robert and Bonni Keziah, Kari grew up in Matthews, graduated from Butler High School, and finished her degree in Interior Design at CPCC. Her love of people quickly earned her success at Starbucks in Sycamore Commons where she was the store manager. While she might not always remember your name, she remembered your drink of choice. In addition to her bright smile and cheerful greeting, regular customers often found their customary order ready and waiting for them when they walked into her store after parking their cars. Kari’s love of life extended well beyond her career. She could often be found going to the mountains, visiting the beach, and doing all of the antiquing she could between the two. She collected Starbucks mugs from the world over, and her collection of over 50 was on display for anyone who stopped by her house to visit. Kari also loved sports such as football and softball. She was even known to enjoy fishing as long as she didn’t have to take the fish off the hook! Ever the original and independent spirit, she left her family’s allegiance to North Carolina and became a Duke fan. Most of all, Kari loved the people in her life. She met a young man named Justin Helms who was that perfect fishing partner as he happily unhooked her fish. He turned out to also be the perfect partner in life and she was blessed on November 9, 2013, to marry and share the last year and a half of her life with him as his wife. Also left with unforgettable memories of Kari are her parents; two sisters: Crystal Keziah of Dallas, TX, and Kaila Keziah of Matthews, NC; her favorite four legged canine child, “Murphy”; a nephew through Justin, Jordan Hathcock; uncles: Scott (wife Julie) Keziah of Matthews, Tom (wife Claire) Skinner of Charlotte, and Ron (wife Brenda) Skinner of Homestead, FL; and her great aunt Faye (husband Jerry) Benton of Mint Hill, NC. Too numerous to mention, Kari’s spirit blessed the lives of numerous other family members, friends, and her church family at Hickory Grove Baptist Church and she is survived and fondly remembered by all of them. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. Kari’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of being a part of the celebration of her life. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, from 4 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, April 30. and from 1 pm until the time of service on Friday. Please bring your favorite stories and memories of Kari to share. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, May 1, in the funeral home chapel. Following the service, the family will gather with out of town guests for food and fellowship in the funeral home reception hall. With her spirit gone on to her heavenly creator, Kari’s earthly remains will be cremated and interred at a later time. Please continue to keep the family in your thoughts, prayers, and support.
