Mary Sharlene Smith

Mary “Sharlene” Smith, 78, of Charlotte, joined her Lord and Savior in His glorious kingdom on September 29, 2015, after a long illness. Sharlene was born on June 23, 1937, in Findley, Ohio to the late Raymond and Ruth Yantis. Sharlene was a hard worker all her life in many different fields. She retired from First Union National Bank in the funds management division. In her spare time, she was a remarkable gardner who could grow anything she touched. Through this talent, she provided her family and friends with fantastic vegetables every year. Sharlene was also an amazing seamstress who could both make clothes and fix them. As a fantastic cook, she loved preparing big meals for her family. Those who knew her will always be grateful for the love and care she gave in everything she did and will never be forgotten. What Sharlene loved most was spending time with family and friends. She was a loving, humble, and selfless mother, grandma, great grandma, mother-in-law and friend. She lived her life taking care of people and giving of herself endlessly. Her loving family thanks her for her never ending love and care for all of us. She will always be in our hearts. The Lord has received a devoted and amazing woman. Sharlene’s family has give the privilege of caring for them to Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Sharlene will be held on Monday October 5, 2015 at 1:30, at the funeral home chapel in Charlotte. The Reverend David McGuirt will be officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the same location. A private burial will follow the service at Sunset Memory Gardens. Ms. Mary Sharlene Smith is survived by her four children: Kevin (wife Elaine) Buck of Harrisburg, NC, Darrell Buck of Hickory, NC, and Craig (wife Julie) Smith of Charlotte, NC, and Lori Smith of Charlotte, NC. Sharlene was able to remain at home due to the loving care provided by her daughter, Lori. Sharlene is also survived by six wonderful grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart: Kyle, Andrew, Lindsey, and Dara Buck, and Joshua and Jeremy Smith; three beautiful great-grandchildren: Elijah, Alexis and Carson Buck who will miss their grandma terribly; and three brothers: Rex, Neil and Gene Yantis. Sharlene is further survived by her wonderful and loving pets, Jenny and Buddy who gave her endless love and joy just as she gave to them, and numerous other friends and family who helped to keep her laughing and her spirits up. The family gratefully acknowledges and appreciates all those who returned Mom’s blessings and love to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Max Yantis. The family would like to thank Dr. Marc Harvey of Mint Hill Primary Care and the hospice and palliative care staff at Novant Matthews Hospital for all the loving care and support they provided to Sharlene and her family.
