Ivan Maystruk

Ivan Maystruck, 83, of Lancaster, SC, died Sunday, January 26, 2014, at Hospice and Community Care in Rock Hill, SC. Ivan was born in Bilka, Ukraine, on May 28, 1930, the son of Gregory and Yuhema (nee Fedas) Maystruk. He was a devout Christian and lived a difficult and often persecuted life as a Christian during the Stalinist purge of the Ukraine. Though millions of Christians were killed during this time, Ivan remained staunch in his faith. In 1991, he and his wife, Yevgenia, came to the United States where they lived in the Rochester, NY, area. She preceded him in death on January 3, 2004. Ivan was blessed with the God given talents of working with his hands. He worked for many years as a woodworker and he loved gardening, cooking, and tending to his bee colonies. When not working with his hands, he was content to sit and read from his bible. Most of all, Ivan loved his family, and he will be sadly missed by they and all who knew him. Ivan is survived by three children: Lesya (husband Vladimir) Didovets of Lancaster, SC; Michael (wife Lyudmila) Maystruk of Charlotte, NC; and Lyubov (husband Vitold) Melnik of Rochester, NY; 10 grandchildren: Inna (husband Andy) Gritsay, Yaroslav Didovets, Lyudmila Didovets, Zoryana (husband Timothy) Glyushenia, Taras (wife Maria) Maystruk, Marina Maystruk, Roman Melnik, Michael Melnik, David Melnik, Paul Melnik, and Andrew Melnik; a brother, Nikolai Maystruk of Seattle, WA; and two sisters: Yelena and Anastasia Maystruk, both of the Ukraine. He is further survived by numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Services honoring Ivan led by Pastor Peter Yevchik of Good News Church will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 30, 2014, in the chapel of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC. Friends may call upon the family at the funeral home for two hours prior to the service. Following services in Charlotte, Ivan will be taken to Rochester, NY, where there will be another gathering and service at the Slavic Pentecostal Church in Rochester. Visitation there will be held on Tuesday evening, February 4th, with services on Wednesday, February 5th. Interment to take place at Parma Corners Cemetery on Union Road in Rochester.
